RADAR OBSERVER ENDORSEMENT

This is a USCG approved comprehensive course that covers all aspects of Collision Avoidance Techniques while using RADAR for surface navigation, as well as the workings of RADAR itself, its legalities and responsibilities.

Many mid and upper level Coast Guard licenses require radar as a prerequisite to license issue. Radar Observer certification is available to any mariner to add credentials to a license, especially if operating a radar equipped vessel even if the radar equipment is not mandated by regulations.

This course is available in four formats:

  • Select option below that suits your needs and then refer to the Class Location Finder for upcoming courses in your area

  • Radar Unlimited is a five day course for all waters.

  • Radar Inland is a four day course for inland waters only.

  • Radar Rivers is a three day course for rivers.

  • Radar Recertification is a four hour course to renew any of the above courses. The Radar Observer endorsement must be renewed every five years.

A Certificate of Competency is issued upon completion which is presented to the Coast Guard so that RADAR may be added as an endorsement to your license.
