Sea School to Offer Maritime Institute of Technology’s STCW Basic Training in Panama City
Panama City, [7/10/24] — Sea School is excited to announce that Maritime Institute of Technology’s STCW Basic Training courses will now be offered under the Sea School name in Panama City. Starting in late August, mariners can enroll in the STCW Basic Training, refresher, and revalidation courses at Sea School, located at 3309 Frankford Ave.
Maritime Institute of Technology (MIT) has a rich history of providing high-quality maritime education since its establishment in 2013. Their ongoing mission is to support the mariner community and provide exceptional training that meets industry standards. MIT staff is excited to collaborate with Sea School to ensure the continuation of these STCW courses in the Florida Panhandle.
“MIT will still offer TOAR, Celestial Navigation, Exam Prep, Stability Prep, and Radar Observer Unlimited at our Panama City location. However, our STCW Basic Training program was discontinued this year. When we stopped offering it, we felt the impact it had on our students. We all agreed that the STCW program needed to stay in our community,” stated Captain Mylan Duemmel, of MIT. “We are certain that the school to entrust these classes to is Sea School.”
Sea School, founded in 1977, has been a leading provider of top-notch merchant mariner credentialing programs at its six locations across the Southeast. With over 60 years of combined teaching experience, MIT and Sea School are excited to join forces to serve the professional mariner community on the Gulf Coast.
“We are thrilled to be working with MIT,” said Duncan Hamilton, of Sea School. “This joint effort allows us to continue our commitment to excellence by offering comprehensive STCW training in Panama City. Captain Mylan ‘Mike’ Duemmel will be heavily involved in the transition of courses, including temporarily teaching as a Sea School instructor, to ensure a seamless experience for our students.”
The first STCW Basic Training class, in Panama City, will be held in late August. Mariners can expect the same level of dedication and expertise that both institutions have been known for, ensuring they receive the highest quality training to advance their careers.
